Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood located in the West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" location. This West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is an extensive region that runs from Lachine all the way west. The West Island is frequently referred to as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay there was not long. Brugel was raised on Courtice just outside Oshawa within Ontario. She was determined to be a professional dancer, but due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partners. In an article from the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. As soon as I outgrew all my male partners then I stopped. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the instance of Brugel, it was a suggestion from her high school teacher in drama. Her teacher invited her to audition for a part in her school's production. The teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the school's annual production. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned the Bachelors in Fine Arts in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years, the roles played by Brugel in the world of television and on the screen have been numerous. The character of Rita from the award winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most notable. Brugel was the sole Canadian part of the cast during the season 1 of the show and was only appeared on occasion.
